DHS Jazz Ensemble performs at 2017 Jazz Jamboree.
The Darien HS Jazz Trombone section, Scott Jonker, James Armstrong, Madison Pomeroy and Derek Chiapetta, were featured at the Jazz Jamboree.
On March 3, Darien High School was the scene of the 4th Annual Darien High School Jazz Jamboree competitive Jazz Festival. Bands from Greenwich, Danbury, Port Chester, Weston, Westport, Joel Barlow (Redding), Wilton, Brien McMahon (Norwalk), Staples (Westport), and Fairfield Warde all performed for judges as well as for the other students musicians and their directors. Judges for the event were jazz bassist Brian Torff from Fairfield University and highly regarded jazz pianist Chris Coogan. Each band was given an outstanding soloist award from their group and then one overall soloist was chosen for the entire festival. The most outstanding ensemble for the evening was awarded to Brien McMahon High School under the direction of Ronald Secchi. The Darien Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Jonathan Grauer, performed in a host school, exhibition capacity for judges comments only, to a receptive audience.
