The 5-6 Jazz Lab gives students the opportunity to develop their creative improvisational skills.
The Jazz Lab for students in grades 5-6 kicked off their second season on October 15 and attracted students from all 5 elementary schools and Middlesex Middle School. The students rehearse on Thursday afternoons in the DHS Band room and get a chance to perform jazz classics, original compositions, popular music as well as develop their improvisational skills. All students improvise at each rehearsal and are guided and mentored by members of the Darien High School Band and Jazz Ensemble.
Next week, professional drummer, John Cutrone, will perform with the students and do a workshop with the drum students.
The students look forward to a Showcase performance for their parents on December 17 and a performance at the “Sweet Night of Jazz” on February 4 with the Middlesex and Darien HS Jazz Ensembles.
